Since 1978, the Congress Palace of Salsomaggiore Terme hosts several European and Italian bridge championships, some of this organized by the FIGB (Bridge Game Italian Federation). In 2002, Hotel Villa Fiorita welcomed the Italian team during the European Championship held in the Spa town, then won by the men's of the Blue Team. Villa Fiorita also usually hosts the Lavazza, Angelini, Brambilla e Savelli bridge team for the Italian championships.

Salsomaggiore is one of the most famous bridge centre in Italy and Europe. In the latest years, the Spa town has hosted many of the most exciting national bridge challenges and several competitions, such as the Men and Ladies Championships for Team, the Italian Championships for mixed teams, pairs, Male and Female individuals.

Bridge is a card game played by four players in two competing partnerships. This hobby was born from a long tradition that began with the Whist, released in England since the sixteenth century, but encoded in precise rules only in 1742 by Sir Edmond Hoyle. From the nineteenth century, the bridge game has spread widely. In Italy, in 1993, the CONI (National Olympic Committee) has recognized the bridge as a sport.
